Where you live
The county in between
People in Pinal County are used to explaining where they live. It is not quite the East Valley and not quite Tucson. San Tan Valley borders Queen Creek, the city of Maricopa is a commute from Chandler, Casa Grande sits on I-10 halfway to Tucson, and Oracle and SaddleBrooke Ranch look up at the Catalinas. That in-between location matters for a bathroom project in a few concrete ways.
First, the services that help older adults are organized by county, so a Pinal County address goes to Pinal County programs, even if your doctor is in Chandler or Tucson. Second, much of the housing here is newer than in Phoenix or Tucson, which usually makes a tub swap simpler. Third, many neighborhoods are master-planned with homeowners associations, including several large 55+ communities, so a little coordination before install day pays off.
Newer homes, simpler swaps
Many Pinal neighborhoods were built in the last twenty-five years. Standard 60-inch tub alcoves and modern plumbing usually mean a straightforward install.
Active-adult communities
Communities such as Robson Ranch near Eloy, Province in the city of Maricopa and Sun City Anthem at Merrill Ranch in Florence have their own contractor and access rules.
Older town centers
Downtown Casa Grande, Florence, Coolidge and Eloy have older homes where the old tub, drain and valve may need more work.
Housing
Newer homes: what usually goes right
When a home was built in the 2000s or later, a few things tend to work in your favor. Bathrooms usually have a standard 60-by-30 or 60-by-32-inch tub space, which is the size most walk-in tubs are made for. Plumbing is typically PEX or copper with accessible shut-offs. Hallways and doors are often wide enough for a full-size tub to make the trip. And many floor plans have two bathrooms, so a couple can turn one into a soaking tub and the other into a low-threshold shower.
There are still things to check. Some builder-grade bathrooms put the tub under a window or beside a toilet in a way that limits where grab bars and controls can go. Some primary baths have a garden tub, which is a different shape from a walk-in tub, and a separate small shower that may convert more easily into a curbless or low-threshold one. Photos of the whole room, not just the tub, help us give you an accurate recommendation.
- Garden tub in the primary bath? It can often be replaced with a walk-in tub, but the deck and surround usually need rework. Ask for that in writing.
- Small builder shower stall? It is often the easiest spot for a low-threshold shower with a seat and a handheld sprayer.
- Electrical: jetted and heated walk-in tubs usually need one or two dedicated GFCI-protected circuits. Newer panels often have room, but a licensed electrician confirms it.
Community rules
Active-adult communities: plan the logistics
Pinal County's 55+ communities are a big reason many retirees move here. They also tend to have clear rules for contractors. Typical requests include proof of an Arizona ROC license and insurance, gate or guard registration, set work hours, and limits on where trucks and trailers can park. Rules differ by community, so check with yours. The HOA and 55+ rules guide has a checklist and a short note you can send to your association.
Interior work, exterior rules. Most associations do not review what happens inside your home, but they do care about the street, the gate and the dumpster. We haul away the old tub ourselves, so nothing waits at the curb.
Local help
Pinal County resources
Pinal County has its own aging network. If you call the Phoenix-area Senior HelpLine from a San Tan Valley or Casa Grande address, you will likely be pointed back here.

| Veterans | Casa Grande VA Clinic, part of the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System | Ask your VA primary care team about a HISA grant, which a VA physician must prescribe. |
| Long-term care with limited income | AHCCCS, about ALTCS | Home modifications can be covered when written into the service plan. |

The HISA grant pays up to $6,800 over a lifetime for a service-connected condition or a 50% or higher rating, and up to $2,000 for other veterans eligible for VA care. Original Medicare generally does not cover walk-in tubs or bathroom remodels. Our VA and ALTCS guide walks through each program.
Pinal specifics
Heat, water and long drives
Pinal County summers are as hot as the Valley's, and many homes have long runs of pipe through the attic or slab. In July the cold tap can come out warm, so baths can run hotter than you expect. An anti-scald valve helps hold a steady temperature, but it cannot make water colder than the cold supply. Our heat and bathroom safety guide explains what to do about it.
Water in much of central Arizona is hard, which affects jets and drain valves over time. Your water provider's annual quality report shows how hard your water is. Air jets, a fast-drain valve with a cleaning routine, and a softener keep a tub working well; the hard water guide has the details.
Farther-out addresses, such as homes in Arizona City, Stanfield, Picacho or along the rural roads near Coolidge, are still in our regular service area. We confirm the delivery route and any gate codes in advance, the same way we would for a home in Mesa.
Before you call
A quick planning checklist
- Decide who will bathe here and how: soaking, quick showers, seated showers, or help from a caregiver.
- Measure the tub space, the bathroom door and every doorway on the path from the front door.
- Take photos of the whole bathroom, the tub or shower, the water heater and the electrical panel.
- Check your community's contractor rules and gate process.
- Note any funding you plan to use, such as a VA grant or ALTCS, so the quote includes what those programs require.
- Call or send the form. You get a written quote, and there is no in-home sales presentation.
FAQ
Pinal County questions
Which Area Agency on Aging serves Casa Grande and San Tan Valley?
Central Arizona Aging, formerly the Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens, serves Pinal and Gila counties. That includes Casa Grande, San Tan Valley, the city of Maricopa, Florence, Eloy and Coolidge. The DES directory lists its current phone numbers.
Do you install in 55+ communities like Robson Ranch and Province?
Yes. We work within each community's rules for contractor registration, gate access, work hours and parking, and we provide our license and insurance details when an association asks.
Where can Pinal County veterans ask about a VA bathroom grant?
Start with your primary care team at the Casa Grande VA Clinic, part of the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System. A HISA grant must be prescribed by a VA physician, and we supply the itemized estimate and photos.
My home is newer. Is a walk-in tub install simpler?
Usually. Newer homes often have standard 60-inch tub spaces, modern plumbing and wider doors. We still check photos of the room, the path and the electrical panel before quoting.
Can a garden tub be replaced with a walk-in tub?
Often, yes. A garden tub sits in a deck, so the deck and surround usually need rework around the new walk-in tub. Your written quote spells that out so there are no surprises.
Do you serve rural Pinal County addresses?
Yes. Homes in Arizona City, Stanfield, Picacho and other rural areas are in our service area. We confirm the route, gate codes and truck access before install day.
Between Phoenix and Tucson? We come to you.
Pinal County installs are scheduled like any metro job. Send photos for a free written quote.
